Why Commemorate Dude 44“Dude 44” was the call sign of a U.S. Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle crew member shot down over hostile territory in Iran on April 3, 2026, during a high-risk combat mission.
When the aircraft was struck by an Iranian missile, both crew members ejected safely—but landed miles apart, alone and surrounded by enemy forces.
For nearly two days, one of the airmen—widely referred to as “Dude 44 Bravo”—survived while seriously injured, evading capture in rugged mountainous terrain. Isolated behind enemy lines, he relied on his training, resilience, and determination to stay alive under extreme conditions.
His survival triggered one of the most complex combat search-and-rescue operations in modern U.S. military history, involving hundreds of personnel, dozens of aircraft, and coordinated efforts across military and intelligence units.
